Yesterday we did employment paperwork; today we went to the Hillsboro Processing Plant for a four-hour hands–on training session.
We got our hard hats, safety glasses, and vests, ...
... then we got to meet a real Sugar Beet Piler, ...
... and learn about our job.
We worked with a few trucks ...
... took some samples ...
... and got to be friends with our trainers
Mary is a nursing student from Texas. She comes to the beet harvest every year to earn money for tuition. Many of these folks are second and third generation harvest workers.
This adventure will definitely be something we have never experienced before.

Very interesting - So mom's worked a cash register and you can now say you had to clock into work. And grandma was worried you would not have anything to do once you retired. I enjoyed learning about the "turnip" I mean sugar beets. Who knew what was out there in the world to do. Love you, Tricia
